Our Governing Body
What is it?
Who are we?
Message from the Chair of Governors
What is it?
All schools in England have a Governing Body which is responsible for overseeing many of the strategic decisions of the school. A key role is to act as a ‘critical friend’: to support; to challenge; to ask questions; and ultimately to represent the school community.
The Governing Body works in close partnership with the Head Teacher, staff and the local authority. Whilst the Head Teacher is, of course, responsible for the day to day running of the school, the Governors are involved with such things as staffing, curriculum, school buildings and finance. It ensures the school functions well and maintains the proper range of academic and social objectives.
Who are we?
In September 2014 the Governing Body elected to reconstitute, in keeping with statutory guidance from the Department for Education. We took this decision as it allowed us to change the numbers and types of Governors we have and to appoint more people on the basis of the skills they could bring.
The Governing Body now consists of:
The standard term of office for a Governor is four years. The Chair and Vice-chair are elected bi-annually at the first meeting of the academic year.
The Chair of Governors is John Burkes, who can be contacted via the school office or via the Clerk to Governors email at email@example.com.
Much of the work of the Governing Body is done by committees. At Hagley Primary, we have the following committees:
Reception: Alien Workshop March 2018
Governors were fortunate enough to be involved in the Reception Alien Workshops. It was wonderful to see Parents/Carers and children working together to create some amazing aliens from ‘junk’
School Council Interviews March 2018
School Council representatives are always wonderful ambassadors for our school, when conducting interviews for prospective members of staff. They are always so polite, enthusiastic and astute. Governors and school leaders really value their input in this important process.
Behaviour Governors Learning Walk February 2018
Behaviour Governors observed a happy calm atmosphere inside and outside at lunchtime, with children of all ages making use of the outdoor play equipment and utilising all areas of the outside space. The Sing Stop, in particular, was popular amongst all year groups. All children were very keen to share what they are doing and the behaviour observed was exemplary.
Governors visited school at the beginning of November and spent a lovely morning observing the children during morning playtime. They saw happy, cooperative, energetic and playful children. Governors would like to congratulate them on their wonderful behaviour.
Year 5 Visit
It was lovely to see Year 5 completing their WWII project, and working so collaboratively to create the amazing willow sculptures of Lancaster Bombers and Spitfires. Do have a look in the New Hall the next time your are in school.
Hagley community enjoyed the wonderful singing of the school choir at the Hagley Village Christmas Lights switch on, on Friday 24th November.
