At Hagley Primary School all children and staff are part of a house group. These houses are Elgar, Simmonds, Plant and Tolkien.

Following a whole school competition, entries were narrowed down by each class, with the winning entry chosen by the school council and the staff. The winning names reflect individuals who have strong connections to the area and have been successful in the arts/ sports.

Sir Edward Elgar        – Famous Worcestershire composer

Ellie Simmonds OBE  – British Paralympian and Gold medal winner

Robert Plant CBE      – English musician, songwriter and singer from the band Led Zepplin

J.R.R. Tolkien CBE     – English poet and writer

How do the children get house points?

House points can be awarded to individuals and groups of children for excellent work. House points can also be awarded to children for actions that reflect our ‘ACE’ school values. These values are:

  Being Resilient

  Being Conscientious

  Being Creative

  Being Responsible

  Being Respectful

Emotional Wellbeing

  Being Reflective

  Being Courageous

House points can be given out by any member of staff across the school, including lunchtime supervisors and office staff. This is an excellent way of promoting and rewarding positive attitudes and behaviour.

Scores are collected in weekly by our Year 6 House Captains and announced in Friday’s Well Done assembly. At the end of each half term, the house with the most points will be announced and they will receive a special prize, for example, a non-school uniform day. House Captains will also be awarded with the house cup.

At the end of the year, the house with the most points will be announced and they will take part in a special ‘Fun Day’.

House groups will also take part in a house assembly each half term, celebrating the successes of children within that house.

There will be other events throughout the year in which the children will have an opportunity to represent their house, including Sports Days.
