Welcome to the Reception Year Group page
Please find below a link to some guidance regarding home learning activities for those who are not in school at the moment. Please note that we have made a conscious choice not to send home a large number of paper-based activities as this is not in line with the nature of our EYFS set up. However, we respect that some parents may wish to provide such activities for their children so we have included links to appropriate activities within the document below.

Online Phonics Lessons - 23rd March until 3rd April
Read Write Inc. are scheduling Phonics lessons on Facebook and YouTube for children to watch at home; three short Speed Sound lessons with one of their trainers every day for the next two weeks. Films will only be available at the times below. We would recommend the Set 2 sounds for the majority of our children. Those who find phonics tricky may prefer the Set 1 Sounds:
Set 1 Speed Sounds at 9.30 am and again at 12.30 pm
Set 2 Speed Sounds at 10.00 am and again at 1.00 pm
Set 3 Speed Sounds at 10.30 am and again at 1.30 pm
Note: films are streamed live and won’t be available at other times.

WELL DONE AWARD
Our most recent 'Well Done' Awards go to:
We are continuing to send home reading books. You will receive 3 new books weekly, usually each Friday although please ensure that books are in book bags as occasionally we need to change them on a different day. Please read and share them with your child and return them for them to be changed again. Ensure that you have signed their reading diary so that we know the books have been read and we can change them.
All children have been sent home with a RWI Set 1 Sounds book, and some have now received their Set 2 & 3 Sounds book. Please practise the sounds in this book with your child, but only the sounds we have indicated by putting the date at the top of the page. These are the sounds that we have taught so far so your child will be familiar with them.
As we finish a set of Key Words we will send them home for you to practise - a huge thank you to Mrs Smith who regularly comes in to help put them all together! The children have been taught these in school but please keep revisiting them so that they become embedded. Some of the words are 'red' words, meaning they are not phonetically regular and cannot be sounded out, therefore they must be recognised by sight. Some words are 'green' words which are phonetically regular, however please also encourage these to be recognised as sight words as this will support fluency in future.
Other ways to help at home
Encourage independence as much as possible! Where possible please encourage children to do the following independently:
- Get dressed.
- Use a knife and fork.
- Carry their school bag and water bottle to and from school.
- Walk to and from school (without being carried or using a pushchair).
