WELL DONE AWARD
Friday 24th January 2020
This week, the 'Well Done' Awards go to:
Wednesday 13th November
It was lovely to see so many of you at the Phonics and Reading parent workshop. We hope you found it useful and informative. Please click here to view the presentation from the workshop.
We have started to send home reading books. You will receive 3 new books each Friday. Please read and share them with your child and return them the following Friday for them to be changed again. Ensure that you have signed their reading diary so that we know the books have been read and we can change them.
On Monday 7th October we also sent home a RWI Set 1 Sounds book. Please practise the sounds in this book with your child, but only the sounds we have indicated by putting the date at the top of the page. These are the sounds that we have taught so far so your child will be familiar with them.
The first set of Key Words were sent home before October half term - a huge thank you to Mrs Smith who came in to help put them all together! The children have been taught these in school but please keep revisiting them so that they become embedded. Some of the words are 'red' words, meaning they are not phonetically regular and cannot be sounded out, therefore they must be recognised by sight. Some words are 'green' words which are phonetically regular, however please also encourage these to be recognised as sight words as this will support fluency in future.
The second set of key words were ready at the end of November. Most children have now returned their keyrings to have new words added. If you have not yet returned your keyring, please do so ASAP.
Other ways to help at home
Encourage independence as much as possible! Where possible please encourage children to do the following independently:
- Get dressed.
- Use a knife and fork.
- Carry their school bag and water bottle to and from school.
- Walk to and from school (without being carried or using a pushchair).
