Governing Board

Believe, Achieve, Together We Succeed
Governing Body at Hagley Primary School
What is it?

All schools in England have a Governing Body which is responsible for overseeing many of the strategic decisions of the school. A key role is to act as a ‘critical friend’: to support; to challenge; to ask questions; and ultimately to represent the school community.

The Governing Body works in close partnership with the Head Teacher, staff and the local authority. Whilst the Head Teacher is, of course, responsible for the day to day running of the school, the Governors are involved with such things as staffing, curriculum, school buildings and finance. It ensures the school functions well and maintains the proper range of academic and social objectives.

Who are we?

In September 2014 the Governing Body elected to reconstitute, in keeping with statutory guidance from the Department for Education. We took this decision as it allowed us to change the numbers and types of Governors we have and to appoint more people on the basis of the skills they could bring.

The Governing Body now consists of:

  • The Head Teacher
  • One elected Staff Governor
  • One appointed Local Authority Governor
  • Four elected Parent Governors
  • 8 Co-opted Governors

The standard term of office for a Governor is four years. The Chair and Vice-chair are elected bi-annually at the first meeting of the academic year.

The Chair of Governors is Rebecca Core, who can be contacted via the school office or via the Clerk to Governors email at [email protected].

Much of the work of the Governing Body is done by committees. At Hagley Primary, we have the following committees:

  • Leadership and Management Committee
  • Quality of Education Committee
  • Resources Committee
  • Personnel, Pay and Performance Committee
Message from the Chair of Governors – Rebecca Core

At Hagley Primary School we work together as a community to provide a happy, secure and stimulating environment where children are motivated to learn, are valued as individuals and encouraged to reach their full potential.

The team of Governors at Hagley Primary School helps to ensure the quality of education provision is high and act as the accountable body for the school.  We do this by setting the strategic vision and the vision, ethos & values of school, monitoring and challenging the school’s performance and recruiting and holding to account the Head Teacher.

The children at our school have a happy, safe and caring environment in which to learn.  Our aim is to help our children grow so they are confident, sensitive to others, interested in the world around them and prepared for the challenges ahead.

The Governing Body has up to 15 people, some of whom are elected and others are co-opted because of the skills and experience they can bring to benefit School.  It includes members of staff, parents, an appointee of the Local Authority and others from our community.

All Governors have the aim of seeing the wonderful children at our school receive the very best education possible.  Most of all we are here because we care for our school and want it to succeed.

If you would like to contact me please do so by email via our Clerk – [email protected].

I hope the website provides you with an insight into our school and the information you need.
